If you go searching for this film, you may run into that one. There was a 2014 film also titled Life Itself about Roger Ebert, the film critic. The description of this story as spanning decades and continents sounds like something Fogelman is a genius at creating. ![]() ![]() I pretty much love any project Annette Bening attaches herself to, and I love Dan Fogelman’s TV series This is Us. Life Itself stars Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Life Itself centers on a couple (Oscar Isaac and Olivia Wilde) that lead a multi generational love story spanning both decades and continents, from the streets of New York to the Spanish countryside, and are all connected by a single event. The film will be released in September 2018. Coming from Amazon Studios is Life Itself a love story from writer and director Dan Fogelman, the man responsible for This is Us. ![]() ![]() ![]() These are written in the second person, a choice Machado lays out in a section titled “ Dream House as an Exercise in Point of View,” which explains how the “assured, confident woman” she identifies as before and after this relationship is “cleaved: a neat lop that took first person…away from second.” It’s an effective device that draws us in as not readers or voyeurs, but participants. If I hadn’t given Kulti a shot already hearing this would definitely scare me off but this author has the talent at drawing out the slow burn in such a believable way that a reader completely understands why the characters aren’t just falling into bed together. ![]() ![]() But not just that – this type of slow burn that Zapata does is where it’s around 70% into the book and there still hasn’t been any kissing. No falling into bed in chapter 2, no longing gazes, or loud declarations of love after 5 minutes of knowing each other. ![]() Zapata is known amongst her fans as the slow burn queen so I knew going into this one what to expect – that there would not be any insta-love here. It’s the same for most people who read her books because they just draw you in and Wait For It is no different from the rest.
